NEXT STEPS ::
To start Diaspora you will need to download the main game application. To do this, click the 'Download Diaspora Now' text below. The game with all the graphics and audio is just over 11 Mb. Set it downloading, take a coffee break, subscribe to the newsletter and it'll be ready to play.

INSTALLATION ::
Double-click on the file call Setup and set a convenient directory for the installation.
GETTING STARTED ::
Make sure you have an open connection to the Internet, and then double click on the file Diaspora.exe. This will bring up a blank screen while it tries to connect to our server. If the application closes, check 1) that the Internet connection is still open and, 2) that you are not behind a firewall. Then try again.
If you have played before then simply enter the name and password of your character (correct spelling and case is necessary) and wait to join the game. Please be patient while the server verifies your details.
If you want to create a new character, click 'Create character' and then enter your character's name and password. Then click 'Submit'.
TROUBLE SHOOTING ::
Main Points:
1. If the game will not run check that you have the latest version of jview.exe (Virtual Machine) on your computer. You can normally find this in the Windows or Winnt directory of your c: drive, or else search for it using Explorer's 'Find' tool.
If it is not there then download the file from Microsoft's web site.
2. Check that you are not playing Diaspora from behind a firewall. High security firewalls don't like these sorts of games! If you want to configure your firewall to accept Diaspora, open up Port 4300.
3. Many people find that they have problems running Diaspora with Windows ME. This problem can usually be solved by doing the following:
Click on the 'Tools' setting on Internet Explorer and click on internet settings. Select the 'Advanced' tab and scroll down the options till you come to the option for Microsoft VM. Make sure that the first box has a tick in it and that the other 2 boxes are empty. This should allow you to play the game.
