Diapsora Guide

Diaspora, if you dont already know it, it the best online space game. Ever! But to the newbie in his little zephyr seeker, it may seem impossible for them to realise how someone can be flying around in a Helios. So, here's my guide on how to get yourself into a Helios as soon as possible (unlike me, who bought all of the plans even *shudder*nisus2!). Here are the 20 steps to a Helios Seeker.
1. Buy a zephyr seeker and fill all of the miscelaneous section with jump drives so you get a fast a ship as possible, and add a gun - best you can afford.
2. Go inro the neutral zone, to Leius Meitus, and buy the arachne plans and join traders. Then launch and ask someone to kill you, or just fire at the sat and let it kill you.
3. You will now find you have 20k again! Whoo hoo!!! Go and buy a zephyr carrier.
4. Trade, trade, trade and trade. Oh, and dont beg for money. When you have traded or have enough money for a arachne carrier (you should always check if you have any missions and do them - quick and easy money for newbies most of the time)
5. Once you have about 50k, buy the arachne carrier and fit the jump drives to make it as fast as possible.
6. Trade, trade, trade, trade.
7. When you have, ohh, lemme see, about 150k, sell your carrier and buy a freighter and fit it with 2 cargo pods, and the rest jump drives.
8. Trade, trade, trade, trade!!!!!
9. When you have 700k, buy an arachne destroyer, fit with all jump drives and all the same guns, and go down to Jen Kayle and buy the Talos2 plans. But make sure you join a different guild before you go down to Jen Kayle - if no one will enlist you, go join Militia on Tyros so you can at least get money for killing the rin and cover your costs.
10. Hang around Jen Kayle and that area, always in the same node as a planet or 1 jump away and kill all the rin that you can. Keep killing rin till you have at least 50exp.
11. When you have 50exp, go back home, dont sell your destroyer yet, but buy a talos 2 seeker, fit with all jump drives and a few guns, and go down to Hy Syng and buy Neried plans (useful for the guns).
12. Go back home and sell the guns in your arachne destroyer and replace with razor rays. You may have to do some trading at this point if you dont have enough money to fit 8 razor rays.
13. When you have fitted all the guns, go back to Jen Kayle or Jen Cando and keep killing rin. In an arachne destroyer with 8 razor, you can take out a t1 attacker on your own. Go for as many big ships as possible, but dont steal other people's kills. This means if you jump into a node and someone is alreayd shooting a rin, leave it unless they ask for help. However, if the rin jumps into the node your in, anyone in the node who was there when the rin jumped in can shoot it.
14. Keep killing rin till you have 200exp - seems a lot but it's not that hard to get.
15. Once you have 200exp, go back home and sell your arachne destroyer.
16. Buy a talos2 freighter and fit it with equal amounts of jump drives and cargo pods.
17. Trade, trade, trade. You can now trade in the neutral zone if your careful. But if you do this, there is a high risk of being shot at by player killers or pkers. If you choose to trade in the neutral zone, fit all jump drives and if possible, trade in a group.
18. When you have 700k, sell your t2 freighter and buy a t2 seeker. Fit it with razor rays and full jump drives and go to Helianthen and buy the Helios plans.
19. Come back home and buy a helios seeker, fit it with 5 xen silensus and all jump drives.
20. Voila! Your in a Helios!!! Now go back down to Jen Kayle and Jen Cando and kill more rin so you can get more exp to get into a bigger Helios ship!!!
things not to forget:
1. Dont steal kills
2. If you accidently do steal a kill pay the other person the money you got from the kill
3. Dont beg
4. Pay back your debts
5. When in the neutral zone, scan for pkers and keep out of their way
6. When scanning for a player make sure your in a safeish area - and make sure you've got the volume on so you know if your being attacked
7. Dont transfer money to Rin or Klyn
8. If you pay someone to do something, they may not do it
9. Trade hard but remember to chat to people - making friends is part of the game. You may have a Helios Behemoth, but unless you got some friends backing you up, a few helios hunters and one destroyer could take you down
10. Dont pick on someone in a guild unless your sure that their guild wont help them (I can name at least two newbies in zephyr seekers who have mouthed off at me and then gone boom, and only about a week ago, someone in a Zephyr carrier in one of the neutral nodes tried to kill Garfield in his Helios lol)
10. Kill a lotta rin - Klyn are a useless way of getting exp
11. Dont just join a guild cos you think you'll be safe - be different and try and contribute to a guild that needs it. Make the new Iron Shield, or United, dont just join them.

LDM - Long distance message

There are 3ways of communicating in Diaspora
1. Chat box - bottom right of the screen - let you talk to anyone in that node
2. LDM - Type the persons name followed by :: (double colon) and the message and they will get the message e.g. to send a message to me, you type "brainstorm::Message"
3. Guild messaging - If you are in a guild other than rin, Klyn, or militia, then by typing :g:: (colon g double colon) and the message, you can type a message to everyone in your guild
SHIP SELECTIONS
You often get newbies asking what ship should I get? The answer is, a Helimoth. But, seeing as some newbies (and other not so newbies) cant afford them or dont have the exp for them, then, it all depends what you want to do with your ship. If you want to trade, the best ships are (in the following order):
Helios Freighter
Helios Carrier
Talos 2 Freighter
Talos 2 carrier
Arachne freighter
Arachne carrier
However, if you wanna go fighting, the best ships are (again in the following order)
Helios behemoth
Helios Destroer
Helios Attacker
Helios hunter
Helios fighter
T2 Destroyer
T2 Attacker
T2 Hunter
Arachne behemoth (watch out, you'll be a big target though)
arachne destroyer (my fave!)
Arachne attacker
I personally cant be arsed with endymion, but if anyone thinks they're any good, let me know.
EXPERIENCE
I personally hated it when they brought in the exp system in the new patch, but I can understand why it is needed. Otherwise you could get big players with a spare 20mil making a new alt and putting him/her in a endymoth as used to happen. Now, they have to actually use that alt to fight to get exp. You get exp based upon how much exp you have. In other words, what level pilot you are:
0 exp - 199 exp = Level 1 pilot
200 exp - 299 Exp = Level 2 pilot (This is me at the moment!)
Not tooooo sure about the rest, so if someone could email me and help me out? Well anyway, you have to be level 6 to get a Helios Behemoth which is 1600exp!
At each level, what you get exp for killing changes. Level 1 you get exp for killing anything at a greater level than you in a ship higher than a zephyr seeker.
Level 2 you dont get exp for fighter, and then amount of exp you get for attackers and destroyers and hunters goes down. And so on, till you get to level 6, where you will only get exp for behemoths. Ouch.
The Velic Zone
The Velic zone is where you get relocated to if you have too many gen kills. That means if you kill too many people in the gen zone. You can go into the Neutral zone if your a velic pilot but not into the Gen zone. To become gen again you must get more velic kills. Iam not sure about the exact number, but someting like 10 velic for every1 gen I think. Below is a guide written by aniquilare (thanx mate) about the velic zone:
1.Living, Fighting and Trading in Velic Zone
a) Intro: I'm not an expert in fighting, because often i often don't bother with guns, i try to be neutral and usually blast off if i'm being shot at. My advice in velic zone is the fact that you can survive without any guns , without a good ship. With no problemo. However if you would like to fight those stupid gen crusaders that piss all the traders off, and who make exp builders happy, its very easy. If you have nereid and endy plans, my favourate to blast away gens are nereid freighters, mount a few razor rays and trade between Velic Grindaw and Velic Vel, (that is where in my opinion you see the most of em'. ) If you choose a guild in Velic zone then chances are you get 3k for a crusader. Out of trading + blasting you can make about 20- 30k each way. And expect to pay around 3 to 4k on repairs.
b) becoming a velic pilot becoming a velic pilot is quite easy, if you have manged to get a *cough* good ship to Velic, Good ship meaning good enough to get through NZ without being blasted to peices, then it qualifies as good. Kill enough of the gen crusaders (i think its ten or twenty)and you are assigned a home on one of the velic planets , if you are from gen grayl then you will be assigned a home on velic vel,...gen irium gets a home on velic grindaw (the one that looks like a lump of charcoal)..etc. But unfortunatly now you have become a velic pilot, you can no longer get into gen zone,( but who wants to anyway ?)
c) ships : If you want to trade and you a short of money then the best ships are of course archne freighters, Mount cargo pods on them, And your best guns, You can haul about 550 cargo then making mediocre profits of about 10-15k each way. now, if you are really short of money then go for the carrier. About 400 cargo And profits of around 4-7 k. but beware because pkers in Velic like making archne's go pop. If you want to trade and have a certain amount of cash , ranging from 300-800k, i really suggest you go for a T2 carrier, You can haul quite a bit of cargo and are great value for money. Put once again your best guns on it and go trade, pkers should leave you alone when you are in one of these. If you want to trade and have stacks of cash, 1mil-3mil (are you sure you still want to trade?) Get a nereid freighter. No one will piss you off and you can make alot of profit by blasting the gen crusaders on your route. Well fighting in Velic zonethe same as fighting in any other zones. The only differance is the opposition, you may encounter a greater variety of ships, from zephry seekers to helios bohemoths, they all are in velic.(you even spot the odd nereid and endymon)
d) Guilds you may encounter:
Killers Krew: The main guild in velic , i think they own velic carden sat, though i'm not sure. The name doens't really inspire confidence, but generally they never attack unless attacked first. A powerfull guild with good leaders, not to be messed with. Their numbers are around that of 20 to 30 members, Usually they stay in Velic increasing in numbers and building EXP, but a few of them go into NZ and gen to get more recruits, this makes you think they are a dead guild with no power. They are a generally non-pk guild, though not anti-pk. You can see them spread around the three planets, Mainly in T2 ships, seekers, fighters, hunters. And one or 2 helios ships.
-Gunz4Hire: Yes this is where they hide, you may have seen a few in NZ but here they are in number, Around 15 of them gravitate around velic grindaw defending their sat. Nevertheless a *hiccup* supposedly non-pk guild yet alot of them do,( to pass the time) but with a bit of reasoning you get to see that they are not all that bad.
The Poose: Another one of those endless anti-pk guilds..Their leaders seem not to be too clever *hint* because they do not relize pkers are in NZ, or maybe they just want to increase on numbers, with a pocketfull of alliances and helios ships, Pkers Beware...
Syndicate: I don't know much about this guild , their members are all in helios ships , a pk guild to what a remember, i think they have about 10 members , look out for them, and try to avoid them for they are well organized and u might have the whole guild on your back if u attack 1 of them. -
gen crusader : A bot guild, avoid them if in a trading ship. But kill them in a fighting ship, about 20 of them, most are in archne seekers, fighters, hunters, and one attacker. This guild is the main problem for traders in carriers. But they make hunters and exp builders happy.(they go pop very easy so no worrys.)
I think one more guild has a strong presence in velic zone, the one who owns Velic Vel sat but i cannot say who for i do not remember and i am writing this as the server is down.
